Future of coding interviews
My prediction
When I started interviewing engineers, I asked the same Leetcode questions I had been asked. I thought it measured coding ability. It didn’t, it mostly measured preparation. AI is about to make that even more obvious.
Traditional coding questions rarely show how candidates think as engineers or handle real-world challenges. They mostly show how many problems someone has practiced.
My prediction: in the next 2–3 years, coding interviews will focus on spotting AI-generated mistakes and fixing them. Candidates may be asked to review a PR from AI and work with it to address the issues.
I created a quick challenge with some AI-hallucinated code. Can you spot what’s wrong, why it’s risky, and how you’d fix it?
